Original Post here, starting with Mat's mod: Link Mat's first post regarding this mod here: Link

Although I never had any problem with my original (2009) Carrier Assembly, apparently Mat had the same needle bearing issue I'm now having after I changed to the revised Carrier Assembly, per Triumph advisory. Mat's solution was replacing needle bearing and race with three ball bearings and a spacer (leaving out circlip in hub's 37mm bore).

Revised Carrier Assembly (replacing all previous) has a smaller 35mm bore, thus a smaller needle bearing and race. And now I have the same problem Mat was chasing in posts linked above.
I was able to obtain three 20mm x 35mm x 9mm bearings, but chose to go with two 20mm x 35mm x 11mm bearings and two spacers instead, allowing install of circlip. (The three-bearing mod impinges on circlip area.) Both sets of bearings came from VXB.com.

If choosing to do this, please double-check and triple-check all dimensions before proceeding.
Pressing needle bearing out of hub requires a precise diameter drift and significant pressure. Someone here managed to cut one out. Removing needle bearing is first challenge; replacements are no longer available - bearing failure means replacing entire Carrier Assembly.

The ideal solution would be a single roller bearing: 20mm ID, 35mm OD x 25mm long - unable to find one of these.
(20mm x 37mm OD x 25mm with thrust bearing looks interesting, tho: Link )

Problem may be caused by too-tight belt adjustment; I've been setting tension to 3/8-inch (same setting HD uses), where Triumph shop manual specifies 1/4-inch. Next adjustment will likely be closer to 1/2-inch.

I had to grind out the outer race using a dremel tool to get a portion of it paper thin to remove the preload tension and then drift it out. Not only was it tight in the bore it was also corrosion welded. I can't remember the mileage when I did this but it was right after Matt posted his solution and the last time I did an R&R on the hub it was way easier.

Bearings installed, hub ready to install (and test).

Good to see these problems still being solved. Is this the new version of the hub? ..and from which year ? I don't recall a circlip in the one I modded .. and its not on my drawing.
Annoying that all they had to do was to have a bigger diam. pulley fitting and they could have put a full bearing in there .. like the other side.

Good work though .....if mine goes and its this version I shall do this. It will work.

Wow, high praise from the master! Welcome back, Mat.
I don't know if original hub had a 2nd circlip in its snout or not, I don't see it or it's groove in your drawing, either. Might show up in parts list for the now-extinct version, but version 2 is the only one available for 2010 (and possibly later models). No clue as to why they went to a smaller needle bearing, but there it is.

Never had any issue with original hub, but I now have four of the new ones. First failure shows obvious wear on inner race; when we pressed it out, one needle bearing seal was separated from bearing, hard and brittle as metal - thought it was a washer at first. Seal caused failure, or bearing cooked seal, dunno. Replacement hub lasted about two weeks before making its familiar noise. Don't think I can wait for tire to wear out, will have to install modified hub soon.

Throttle is smooth as silk, and wheel adjusters still provide finesse - thank you, Mat.

I am sure mine gave up because of water and dirt ingress. Pretty harsh road conditions where I live. My 2015 seems OK ... but I dont do the miles I used to as I have another 4 bikes to ride ... and I tend to do local rideouts on my new Fantic Caballero which is much more suited to our back roads (and farm tracks )
But its good to have options when needed.

Lol... I'm sure fun can be had on a tractor. I have just got back from the states ( Montana and Cali) and had great fun on my dads kubota zero steer mower .... having never tried a ride on mower.
